Grumman EA-6B Prowler model airplane

During the Korean War the US services flew more attack missions than any other type, in the case of the US Navy and US Marine Corps mostly with elderly piston-engined airplanes. This experience showed the need for a specially-designed jet attack aircraft that could operate effectively in the worst weather. In 1957 eight companies submitted 11 designs in a US Navy competition for a new long-range low-level tactical strike aircraft. The Grumman G-128 was to fulfill that requirement admirably, becoming a major combat airplane in the later war in Southeast Asia, and leading to a family of later versions. The first YA-6A first flew on April 19, 1960. Early experience with EA-6A-ECM escort Intruder aircraft led to the development of a more advanced airplane known as the EA-6B Prowler. Externally it is similar to the basic A-6A, but it differs by having a nose section which has been extended by 4 ft. 6 in., and a distinctive fin pod to house passive receivers. Other changes include structural strengthening for operation at a higher gross weight, the provision of accommodation for two additional crew members to operate the more advanced ECM equipment, increased fuel capacity, and more powerful Pratt & Whitney J52-P-408 engines. Deliveries of production aircraft began in January, 1971. When the last A-6 variant left the production line at the end of 1990, more than 660 of these expensive but versatile combat aircraft had been built and delivered to the US Navy and Marine Corps. The A-6E was powered by two 9,300-lb thrust Pratt & Whitney J52-P-8B turbojets, giving the airplane a maximum speed of 644 mph at sea level, cruising speed of 474 mph, service ceiling of 42,400 feet, and a range with maximum military load of 1,011 miles. Airplane armament was one underfuselage and four underwing attachment points for maximum external load of 18,000 lbs.

All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
