The first prototype of this airplane flew on September 26, 1949. A cantilever low-wing monoplane with retractable tricycle landing gear and a 800-hp Wright R-1300 radial engine, the T-28 provided tandem two-seat accommodation for the instructor and pupil in an enclosed cockpit. In 1952 it became US policy to standardize trainers for the nation's armed forces, so following evaluation of two USAF T-28As, the US Navy ordered a T-28B version which differed primarily by having a 1,425-hp Wright R-1820-86 engine. A redesignated T-28D airplane had the Wright R-1820 engine and was given six underwing hardpoints to accept a variety of stores and weapons. Many T-28Ds were operated in the Congo and Vietnam, and were supplied to the air forces of several nations. Eventually there were 1,194 T-28s built. The T-28B had a maximum speed of 343 mph, service ceiling of 35,500 feet, and a range of 1,060 miles. All airplane models are Hand Carved, Hand Painted Mahogany and come fully assembled with removable desk stand.
